I’m excited to see what I discover on my creative walk this weekend. I love spending time sketching Outdoors in nature.

What a glorious day to be out on the Ridge. I had the urge to walk and keep walking today. High up the views were amazing and I stopped for a quick sketch with the chill in the air. . . A couple of spiders 🕷 rocked up on my page and walked through my paint. One had a stand off with a fly. The spider won. So much going on my sketchbook page today. . . Further up on the ridge, the frost and ice was still hanging around. What beautiful patterns nature creates when the temperature drops. . . We met lots of people out in the fresh air on our 10 mile walk. One lady said, if you were feeling low, going up on the ridge would lift anyone’s spirits. It was so lovely to hear and she was loving her walk. . . . Have you be outside today, been creative or both? I can feel the excitement already as I’m thinking about where I might be for #sketchacrosstheworld this year on the 2nd & 3rd May. . . It’s exciting to plan a creative adventure outside and you have an opportunity to join folk all over the world 🌍 to sketch and connect with nature on this weekend May. Last year we covered all 7 continents in the World. So It will be super exciting to see who joins us this year. . . I will be posting hints and tips every month as we run up to May. I arrived home today to discover a package from Australia. I’ve been so moved by the contents. I received the painting of the #pockethitchhikers which Bethan @journalingwithnature created. I love it so much. 💚Together with the tiniest microscope 🔬 I’ve ever seen. Amazing! So I can have a closer look at the nature I love so much. With identification guides for the birds and butterflies of Australia. How exciting! With a lovely card connecting to me through handwriting. . . I’ve been incredibly lucky to build special friendships with people all over the World. Bethan - @journalingwithnature is a kindred spirit and we’ve connected through our passion for nature. . . I’m going to frame the painting and put it on my wall, as inspiration to Journal the nature I discover. Something we should all have a go at doing. Have you recorded in a nature Journal? . We live in an amazing world with Nature all around us. We just have to take time to see it. . Out of the door I went today in a swirl of wind carrying leaves. They danced in front of me along the grass, it’s these magic moments that captivate me. Connecting me to nature outside to sketch or find words to write flowing on the wind. . . I’m wrapped up in waterproofs, boots and bobble hat. With a notebook and pencil to record words and moment with nature, amongst the drips of the rain. . . I’m sat cwtched under the beech it’s peaceful here as I’m noticing what’s at my feet. Beech husks and the brown leaves from Autumn fall. Mosses grown like a carpet along the floor. Different colours of green lichens that have blown from the branches above. Snowdrops are peeping up from behind the moss, they will be greeting me soon. . . Wild Wind Branches Sway Roots Anchored Way . . A wander on a bright yellow witch Hazel greeted me. What incredible colours nature has waiting for you to discover. . . I would love to hear what you have discovered today outside on your walks. Outside and onto to the Ridge to sketch in the moonlight tonight with @rebeccareynolds935 . A very exciting adventure and my first experience of sketching by moon. . Tonight is extra special, the Wolf 🐺 Moon, and the first full moon 🌕 for 2020. There is a penumbral eclipse between 5-9pm. . . There was a cold chill on the wind on the ridge. The Plovers flew by at dusk to say hello. The lights twinkled in the distance as the stars appeared from behind the clouds. . . It was so exhilarating and exciting to be bathing in the moonlight. I love my Sketchbook Friday’s every two weeks. It gives me some quality time outside in the landscape with my sketchbook. . . With a bright blue sky and the sun out, I went to sketch whatever caught my eye. The weeping beech buds and seed casing still on the tree had me stitched to the spot. I sketched and painted with watercolours and added @carandache pencil on top. I love looking at nature in detail. . . The air was fresh, it felt good to be out exploring. A woodpecker was knocking behind me. A nuthatch was feeding on the tree next to me. A robin came to say hello and fed on some worms under the tree. It was a delight to be home from the city. . . I had some creative visitors today. @annakayeart_ in the area and @rebeccareynolds935 both came to say hello, wander around to explore and catch up which is so lovely to do. Meeting other artists and sharing ideas. We studied the gorgeous leaf skeletons of the hydrangea leaves which Anna said looked like lace. They were so beautiful and inspiring to see. The fury buds on the magnolias also had me captivated today. . . Have you been out sketching today or have plans to over the weekend? I’d love to hear... . . Out of the door and onto the Ridge today to feel the wind on my face for #momentsketchers . . I said hello to the Monkey Puzzle trees as I passed by and onto the Trig Point (the highest point) on the hill to sketch my view. It was a freezing cold 🥶 wind at the Trig Point and I had to stand behind it to get out of the wind. The top of the Trig Point became my sketch board and out with my watercolour paints to capture my view. The lovely @wildthorne paints were perfect for today’s moody sky and cold feel. . . I had walkers coming up to me today to see what I was up to, both interested in art but not tried sketching outside. I chatted about the materials I use and how sketching outside made me feel more connected to where I had walked. You feel like you are taking a piece of the landscape away with you in your sketchbook. Some of my materials I recommended to walkers today: @penteluk water brushes @wildthorne watercolours #windsorandnewtonwatercolor especially the sketch set and @carandache pencils in my @seawhiteofbrighton sketchbook. . . The key to trying to sketch outside is to reduce your sketch kit down, less is more. I had my @seawhiteofbrighton square sketchbook with me today. I am enjoying this format at the moment and is handy to have in your rucksack. . . I hope you’ve been out today to sketch for moment sketchers as the New Year starts.
