I see your flash of yellow as you fly infront of me. Such a vibrant bright colour, you brighten my day. I patiently wait for your arrival each year.

The calling of the ancients was drawing me to the Brecon Beacons this evening. To hear the curlews bubbling call for #worldcurlewday A male and female flew over and I capture the video of them calling. Scroll to see the video, (don’t forget to turn your sound up.) I feel so lucky to hear them, I hope they will stay in this area. I also couldn’t resist sketching my view. The sea was calling me today and so I had to go. To listen to the crackling of waves on the stones and the oyster catchers calling, to stick my feet in the salty sea and to paint my view in the sunshine. I couldn’t think of anything better. The wooden board was looking at me whilst I was gathering my materials, so it had to come out to play. It turned out to be a @turnercolourworks Gouache acrylics, with some coloured pencils, so mostly mixed media today. I was so absorbed in my painting in the fresh air, I loved every minute. I collected stones, etched a spiral and photographed the beautiful pink sea thrift. With less than 3 weeks to go till Sketch Across the World, I’m excited and deciding on the sketching materials that will venture out with me over this weekend. I’ve wandered up onto Hergest Ridge today, to the monkey puzzle trees. There was a cold wind and by inching around the trees, I eventually found a spot out of the wind. I sketched Hanter Hill in my new waterproof notebook, I used colour pencils and the ochre drawing leads and some plant pigments. monkey puzzle seeds which are now breaking down make a lovely beige colour. They captured well on the paper. So if you are an avid walker and enjoy writing out in the hills, whatever the weather, pencil should go on okay. Try drawing the outline of the hill and colouring with the pigment from grass around you. Pigments might be trickier when it’s raining. 🍃 I met one of the walking groups as part of #kingtonwalkingfestival they were walking Huntington to Kington. Some had a go exploring nature’s colours, by drawing with plant pigment on some paper. Adrian from the walk yesterday, brought his creation and colour palette he created and inspired some to have a go. 🌱 Some mentioned they were not creative. But by just adding some colour to some paper it allows them to explore opportunities. I chatted about how they could outline a hill, colour with plants around them and write to capture where they have been. A way to feel more connected to where they have been. 🌱 Before they headed off someone mentioned I could be the pop up artist on walks. It sounded fun! I also met a group from Shrewsbury who were walking a route, I chatted a little about creativity but they were focused on just walking. 🌱 With the Easterly wind making it very cold, I head off after my creative fix to the Trig point on the ridge. The skylarks were still up and calling, which I just love to hear. 🌱 For those into long distance walking, you can buy an #offasdykepathpassport from #offasdykecentre in Knighton, to stamp along the way at different points. I had a fabulous time this morning, ‘Discovering Nature’s Colours’ at the #rhoddsfarm for #kingtonwalkingfestival with a lovely group.😄 🍃 Sarah said; ‘Fabulous morning playing with colour’. 🌱 For Adrian it was scary to start thinking it was about creating something arty. But soon he discovered we were just playing with colours through exploring plants, then it was fun. He went on to create one of these amazing pictures, which I was not expecting. Creativity can be a journey for most, built up slowly over time. Having the opportunities in a safe environment just to have a go is what it’s all about. I’m super pleased Adrian came along. 🍃 I loved meeting @rebeccareynolds935 and @mariana.pavlova_ @beadoodlebug so lovely to meet Instagram folk in person. I think another gathering will be on the cards soon. 🍃 A big thank you to Cary and Richard for letting us explore their incredible garden and woodland.
