We had such a fabulous group for the #greensketching walk as part of the Big Draw sketching challenge back in October, themed this year around Drawn to Life. It was an opportunity to join artists Rebecca Finney, Alice Savery (Alice Draws the Line) and the Walking Sketchbook on a Green Sketching Walk, hosted by The Made in the Marches Gallery in Kington, Herefordshire.
The walk out of the gallery took us up to St Mary’s Church where we discovered the trees around us. We studied leaves, seeds and sticks in detail, and all became continuous-line drawings in our sketchbooks.
We collected grasses, leaves and ferns to dip into inks to create marks in our sketchbooks, with Herbin Inks. Through our time in nature some started to see shapes, lines and mini landscapes. Seeing and creating with nature opens up a totally different outdoor experience.
Back at the Gallery tea and fabulous cakes met us following our walk. Gathered around we delved into our sketchbooks to share inspiration, creative ideas and the materials we use whilst sketching or experimental mark-making continued.
Thank you to all those who came along, to those who felt they were not creative but stepped through the door to have a go. Proceeds from the Sketching few hours went to the charity MIND.
